“Covering Force” - OPFOR Ops Orders I. SITUATION A. Overview The Soviet Central Group of Forces (SCGF) has been marshalled to aid in the conquest of Western Europe. For too long now, the capitalist swine of the west have persecuted the Motherland; causing economic sanction after economic sanction to starve our people. Political tensions are high and hostilities are expected to commence at any time. It is time for the Soviet juggernaut to steamroll over the NATO infidels! B. Friendly Forces The following are orders for the 55th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment (GMRR), 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division (GMRD), 8th Guards Army, SCGF. Your forces consist of a modified MRR with artillery assets dedicated from division. In addition, at the division commander’s discretion, elements of the divisional independent tank battalion may be available for your use. You are the spearhead for the division; on to victory! C. Enemy Forces Elements of the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Calvary Regiment (ACR) and ACR regimental assets are arrayed against you. G2 anticipates them to be dug in and well prepared for the assault to come. Never fear, you heavily outnumber them and should push them aside with ease. There are indications of a German tank battalion in reserve behind the 11th ACR, so keep this in mind! Also, since the US has worked on their force outlays for units in the NATO theater, be reminded that even M3’s are carrying ATGM capable infantry now. II. MISSION Your orders are to brush aside the ”tiny” force which stands in your way and to pass through Fulda in their rear with 2nd echelon forces which will exploit any breakthrough. [Your goal is to pass as much of the Independent Tank Battalion, which could be committed to your front, through your lines, off the right side of the map as possible. Remember, Soviet Doctrine is to reinforce success with follow up forces. This tank battalion represents those follow up forces and are not intended to engage the enemy unless absolutely necessary. Victory determination will be based on these stipulations.] III. EXECUTION The 55th GMRR (+) will deploy in line abreast march order entering the map in 3 major groups of forces: Regimental Recon, Advancing Element, and Exploiting Element. A. Regimental Recon - This force consists of the Recon Co and up to 2 Mech Inf Co’s from any of the line Bn’s (so you can essentially start the game with the equivalent of 3xCo’s on-board). This force will start the game anywhere west of the 01 Easting inclusive. B. Advancing Element - This force consists of 2xBn’s (CO’s choice) and any Rgt Troops attached to them. If they enter in-line, they will enter delayed, one behind the other in march formation at 0720. If they enter abreast, they will enter at 0730. C. Exploiting Element - This force consists of the final 2xBn’s (CO’s choice) and any Rgt Troops attached to them. If they enter in-line, they will enter delayed, one behind the other in march formation at 0740. If they enter abreast, they will enter at 0800. D. Independent Tank Bn - Will be committed at Div. CO’s (ie - umpire’s) discretion, so do well! [Note: NATO side doesn’t know how your forces are coming aboard. This is on purpose. So the delays for coming in abreast are for your determination to utilize or discard at your discretion.] IV. SERVICE & SUPPORT A. On-Board Friendly Force Composition (see the TacOps manual unless otherwise noted for unit compositions): 1. Regimental Support Troops - Rgt Recon Co: 4xBMP2 + 4xBMP3 with 1xInf Team in each vehicle. Anti-Tank Bty: 4xBRDM2 + 9xBMP3 with 1 Inf Team in each vehicle. ZSU-23/4 Air Defense Bty: 4xZSU-23/4 2. Mechanized Infantry Battalions [BMP2] (3) - we’ll work on ammo reloads during the game, for the ground troops, but I don’t think they’ll be an issue. 3. Tank Battalion [T80U+ATGM] (1). B. Off-Board Forces [the following forces are for the CO to use; only the ITB is available to be passed on to another player; this means calls for fires/strikes go to CO, on chatter channel, and he/she passes them on to the umpire]: 1. 122m Arty Battery (3) - 3 ammo reloads will be available, 1 for each. What I’ll probably do is setup these batteries onboard since TacOps only allows for 6 units in the off-map arty box. 2. 152m Arty Battery (3) - 3 ammo reloads will be available, 1 for each. 3. MRL Battalion (2) - 2 ammo reloads will be available, 1 for each. 4. Elements of divisional independent tank battalion [TFO] (victory forces). 5. 2 Flights of 2xHind will be available once serious contact with the enemy is made (ie - you won’t be able to call for it when the first shot is fired at you!). They will be 15 minutes off-board once called for and use of both will lower your overall victory determination. 6. Air will be available to the Rgt as much as Front Air can provide. Target times are not available at this time (ie - they’ll be random). V. COMMAND & SIGNALS Please setup a command channel (#opfor) for your forces separate from a “chatter” channel (#whatever) to discuss amongst each other. Only commands to the umpire should be sent on the command channel (#opfor). The following players are listed for action: Erik Wingren [CO] (US): ewingren@wolfenet.com James Sterrett & Corinne Mahaffey (UK): jscm@sterrett.demon.co.uk Steve Heaton (Australia): heaton@ozemail.com.au Ian Barefoot (UK): scanman@pncl.co.uk Jerry Hall (US): CPTJHALL@aol.com VI. ADMINISTRATIVE A. Map: Map 01 is going to going to be used, but OPFOR is going to be entering/advancing from the left. Direct your units as they normally would be by the compass, OPFOR just happens to be advancing to the “east” (right) for this game. B. “Extras”: 4xTRP’s (at start) and 2xArty Delivered Minefield (ADM) are available for the off-board 152’s (assume Spetznatz units have pinpointed the TRP’s for ya ). The ADM’s will take 15 minutes prior to launching and 1x152 Bty will be unavailable for other duty during this time. C. Unit Counters: Generally, vehicular units will not be allowed to breakdown smaller than company/battery size (except for the Rgt Troops). Units will tend to join when within close enough proximity (for the umpire’s sanity) unless advised otherwise D:\TACOPS\CPXS\OPFR0118.DOC
