Norwegian Home Guard Organization

Districts

There are 5 districts in Northern Norway* (Nordland Fylke and up):

HV-14 -- Sør-Hålogaland Heimeverndistrikt nr 14
HV-15 -- Nord-Hålogaland, HQ: Narvik
HV-16 -- Troms, HQ: Bardu
HV-17 -- Alta, HQ: Alta
HV-18 -- Varanger, HQ:

These 5 districts have a total of 14.000 men (Average of 2.800 per
District).

Each District is divided into 4-6 Subdistricts and 18-20 Areas (North). A
district corresponds roughly to a Regiment (Without Support Units), a
Subdistrict is about a battalion and has a staff and 2-5 Areas (Roughly
Company size).

There are about 150 men per Area. In game terms, as an example
the Harstad-Evenes (Harstad) Subdistrict should have about 700 Home Guard
Soldiers divided into 4 company sized Areas and a Staff. Each District also
have a few specialized units, such as a Recon Platoon and a Dog Platoon
(used for guarding installations, searching for explosives etc.). The HV do
not have any AT weapons other than the Carl Gustav and the M-72 LAW. Other
weapons include Sniper Rifles in the Recon Platoon, MG-3, Browning .50 cal,
and personal equipment.

(Actual District/Area Numbers and support units)

* The 13 Districts of Southern Norway has an average of 5.300
(Total 69.000 Men). The reason is mainly that the Northern Districts do not
have as many people living there and that the regular army has more forces
in the North.
