Re: GROUND ASSAULT
Dec. 31, 2009
Gentlemen:
1. NEW INTEL
First, let me alert you to the fact that new intel reports have just been issued by the GRU, our Main Intelligence Directorate, and can be found in the Intel area at Northern Theater Command Headquarters. This intel covers a lot of the kinds of information you have no dobt been seeking for some time. The documents include:
A more detailed brief on Norway's ground deployments in the far north.
A report on the recent status of all US forces currently deployed to the European theater, as well as recent updates on troop movements within the continental US (CONUS). This should give you an idea of the kind of forces we may be expected to meet during upcoming operations.
A report on the recent status of the British armed forces, including land, sea and air threats.
This should provide you with the basic information you need to be able to plan your ground operations in detail.
There is also new information explaining our air lift and sealift capabilities, making it easier to allocate ground forces to sea and air transports for specific missions. This information can be found in the Planning Tools section of your Theater Command HQ.
2. PLANNING YOUR GROUND ASSAULT
Now that your Orders of Battle and mission are clear, and now that you have intel reports on enemy forces and their deployments you may begin planning the final element of Operation Northern Storm -- the ground attack. Once again, your ground forces include:
You will also have 120 An-70 air transports for dropping or airlifting a regiment of paratroopers. (See the document on Airlift Capability in the Planning Tools section of Theater Headquarters for more information).
You will also have most of the Northern Fleet amphibious fleet at your disposal for conducting coastal assaults, if desired. (See the document on Sealift Capability in the Planning Tools section of Theater Headquarters.)
The first order you must draft is the Warning Order which will be sent to all of your subordinate ground forces. This is just a rough shell of your plan, something that allows your submorinates to know what tasks, training and equipment will be needed. The Warning Order should include the following:
1) Location of all ground elements at H-Hour. (If in airplanes
or amphib craft, say so).
2) Overall intention of your plan of operations. This can be
very brief, just enough to understand the basic plan of operations
which will take place over the next 20 days.
3) A task organization chart of whatever forces are committed
at H-Hour. (Battlegroup A, Battlegroup B, etc.)
4) Any orders specific to attacks that will begin at H-Hour.
5) Any changes or cancellations to Operation Pitch Black.
6) Any change or cancellations to Operation Prestone.
You are requested to submit this Warning Order to Northern Fleet HQ sometime in the next 5 days.
[GM: If you can send in 4 days or less, a nominal "preparation bonus" will be assessed in your favor. (Iffy die rolls will go your way during the first minutes of battle).
If time is tight and you are undecided about what forces you want to commit to the attack at H-Hour -- which is understandable given the short timeframe I am giving you -- you may simply hold back your main assault until 15 minutes after H-Hour, then commit them once you have received the first reports from you various attacks throughout the theater. These forces will not enjoy as much of a "surprise" factor, however, since it is likely that after 15 minutes word will have gotten out that Russia has attacked.
If you decide not to commit to H-Hour starting positions you must still fulfill Steps1 and 2, however.
In other words, if you do not get me detailed orders by Friday of this week (call it midnight, US EST, or 0500 GMT Saturday) there's going to be an automatic delay of 15 minutes for all forces slated to begin battle at H-Hour... say due to friction or whatever. You can beat the delay if you can get in your H-Hour instructions in the next 5 days.]
Once your Warning Order has been submitted and the position of your forces at H-Hour is known, you may continue to plan out your operations in detail. You will no doubt want to assign the various elements to individual commanders at that time so that your subordinate commanders can take part in the planning process.
The final draft of you plan should be submitted no later than 7 days from the time you receive a situation report covering the first 15 minutes of battle.
Any questions, please let me know. I look forward to reading your inspired plans for the success of our glorious gruond forces.
Respectfully,
Admiral Runyur Bunzov
CINC Northern Fleet,
Commanding
