Baltic Fleet

About the Fleet:

While the Baltic Fleet's primary mission is to support the ground war in Poland, its day-to-day operations are not directly controlled by Central Front Headquarters. Rather, the Central Front CINC or his Naval Chief of Staff will issue daily objectives and timetables which the CINC Baltic Fleet will then translate into individual unit orders. Objectives should generally be broadly described to allow for maximum flexibility in the face of the unexpected.

Status of the Fleet as of Jan. 1:

The submarines are out of their pens and moving south in advance of the surface fleet. The surface fleet is just now embarking from Riga and heading south as well, full EMCON. (While they could have embarked a day or two earlier, doing so might have alerted NATO before the Northern Fleet operation got safely under way, which required full, operational secrecy in order to succeed.) The various surface squadrons are prepared to head south toward the Polish coast with the mission of supporting the Central Front in Poland. How the Fleet can best do this is up to the Baltic Fleet Commander, though luck, as well as judgement of the individual unit and squadron commanders [the Umpires] may also play a part.

Prewar Order of Battle for the Baltic Fleet:

The Order of Battle for the Baltic Fleet is notional only, and should be used only as a reference to aid the Naval Commander in giving orders. It is intended that the Naval Commander issue orders to the Fleet as a whole, not to individual ships or commands.
